Suzanne Sovereign (nee Blair)

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Suzanne Sovereign (nee Blair), aged 87, on March 17, 2025.

Born on February 21, 1938, in Hamilton, Ontario. Suzanne was the beloved daughter of the late James and Dorothy Blair. Her warm heart, kindness, and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. Suzanne will be lovingly remembered by her friends and family, who are too numerous to count. She will also be fondly remembered by all those whose lives she was able to touch. 

Suzanne was predeceased by her loving husband, David "Dave" Sovereign, with whom she shared many happy years. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Suzanne was a rock of support to her late husband, Dave.  As both a founder of our local radio station, Canoe F.M., and an active newscaster on Canoe, Dave was literally up at the crack of dawn many mornings to get to the station and Suzanne supported him in this endeavor 150%.

For a number of years, Suzanne volunteered with the Student Breakfast Program at the local high school.  As a retired teacher, she really enjoyed interacting with the students.  For over 20 years Suzanne volunteered with the Haliburton Hospital Auxiliary.  She especially enjoyed participating in the many fundraising activities that were so vital to the purchase of much-needed hospital equipment.   For several years Suzanne satisfied her love of shopping through the purchase of the items to be sold, and the management of the Hospital Gift Shop.  Her very large circle of friends will miss her very much. While her loss leaves an irreplaceable void, Suzanne’s legacy of strength, grace, and compassion lives on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Funeral Arrangements

As per Suzanne's wishes, cremation has taken place. Suzanne would appreciate her caring friends and family, quietly, raising a glass and waving "Bon Voyage, thanks for the memories". As an expression of sympathy, donations in Suzanne's memory can be made to Covenant House Toronto.
