Sonya Paterson

In hopes of reuniting in the new earth we announce the passing of Sonya Jean Paterson on September 17, 2025 in her 68th year. 

Sonya was the oldest of four daughters born to Mreata Paterson (nee Drier), and Phillip Paterson. Predeceased by her son's Shane and David Paterson, and dearly missed by her children Jeannie and Blake Paterson. Beloved Grandmother to Isaiah, Chanel, Elijah, Josie, Kyla, Austen, Jacob, and Emma. Great grandmother to Rylee and Shaelyn. Loved whole heartily by her partner of many years Wren Billings.  Loved by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sisters Charlene, Laura, and Elaine. 

Sonya wore many hats in this life, but was proudest of her successful landscaping company that she ran for many years where she made numerous friends and acquaintances. Her greatest talent though was definitely her love. Always available to help, love, and support without judgement. 

Although Sonya may have stepped away from the hall at times throughout her life, she never wavered in her love and devotion to Jehovah.  

Sonya put up an amazing fight against her Stage 4 lung cancer that had little change and no further spread within the months between her MRIs. She would owe her longer life and able battle to a good green diet, well water, and various natural protocols. 

The family would like to give their heart felt appreciation to the nurses and home workers (Maria, Joanna, Sam, Rose, Sue, Caroline, Mandy, Amanda, Leanne, Jen, and Johnna) who took such loving care of Sonya as if she was your own family. You all are the reason she was able to have her wishes of staying home a possibility, and your sweetest care of her did not go unnoticed for one moment. Thank you girls so so much! 

Private Family Service

A private family service is to be held at a later date. In lieu of donations, we ask that you do something kind to help a loved one or community member in need. A home cooked meal, a light cleaning, a small repair, or even a simple conversation will keep Sonya’s love going. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the HALIBURTON COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME 13523 Hwy. #118, Haliburton, Ontario (705) 457-9209.
