She said farewell to this life at Haliburton Hospital on December 5th 2020 in her 68th year.
Shelley’s greatest joy was her family; her husband Phil, all of her children (both natural and the ones who hung around and became just like her own children), her father-in-law, her flock of grandchildren, her sister and brothers, all of her nieces, nephews and their families.
She was a counsellor, a confidante, a support system, and an ally to so many. She was well known for her powerful personality and her awesome sense of humour. Shelley was often the one her colleagues turned to for a witty send-off retirement song during her many years of teaching with the Peel District School Board
Her musical friends from many years of membership with the Sweet Adelines, her co-conspirators in both the arts and music communities of Haliburton, and her Cottage crew were all such a large and vibrant part of her life.
Shelley could have you enthralled by singing a song, mesmerized by her paintings, or in stitches of laughter by telling a story. She would wish to be remembered through laughter and music and, possibly, a witty send-off song.
Her health needs in the last several years of her life may have slowed her down slightly, but we will always remember her as a vivacious and energetic woman whose mind and wit were never dulled.
The lesson she teaches us from her life: If they have to take your leg, don’t complain. Just get a parrot and be a pirate.
