On August 6, 2023, Peter Braund passed away peacefully at his cottage, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren. He spent his last hours in the spectacularly beautiful setting that he loved so dearly. It was his sacred place.
Peter is survived by his wife Anne (née Smith) Braund, his sister Tish Christiaens (Surrey B.C.), and his aunt Barb Veyvara and cousin Ann Veyvara. He will be dearly missed by his three children Catherine, Jennifer and Kevin and his children in-law (Max, Rob, and Alicia) and, of course, his grandchildren (Shanice, Orion, Elysse, René, Zazie, Bruce and Isabella).
Peter was born in Peterborough and moved with his family to B.C. when he was a teenager. He attended UBC and was very active in student affairs - as president of the AMS, and then as the Chairman for the “SUB” (Student Union Building) during the early phase of its construction. Peter graduated in 1969 from the University of British Columbia with an L.L.B. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1971. He joined the firm of Borden and Elliot (now Borden, Ladner, Gervais) and had a distinguished 41-year career. After his retirement in 2010, he became a widely respected mediator and arbitrator who worked for York Street initially and later with ADR Chambers. He served on his cottage association board (Harcourt Park) for many years. He also worked with the Professional Engineers of Ontario for 13 years as a lay appointee.
Peter treasured his family and was ever a supportive, loving father. He loved to travel, and had recently returned from a two-week tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. For Peter, family has always been the most important thing in life. He had some common expressions that we will always remember: “Look at the view!” “It’s always better with butter!” and “Watch the trucks!” We will dearly miss this kind, principled, and fun-loving man who knew how to live life to the fullest, whether with hard work or with laughter, music and family.
Celebration Of Life
The Braund family cordially invites you to celebrate the life of Peter Ralph Braund on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023. The event will take place from 5-7 p.m. at The Old Mill (21 Old Mill Road Toronto, Ontario M8X 1G5). Peter (a.k.a. Dad, Grandad, Daddio, PB) was a steady and uplifting influence for a great many people. There will be appetizers, refreshments and hugs available to those who are able to join us.
We offer this opportunity to share thoughts and memories of his life as well as the positive impact he had on all of us. It is a time of both sadness and joy. We encourage you to consider the ways in which he fostered your sense of joie de vivre, laughter, compassion and duty. If you would like to present a message to the family, you can do so by writing in the guest book, sending an email (annebraund@rogers.com), writing a card/letter, or simply by speaking with us at the event.
The world will dearly miss Peter’s humourous and caring disposition, however, he lives on in those of us who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life. He went as peacefully as possible, surrounded by family at his cottage. This is our chance to celebrate together as his extended family and community. We would love to know if you plan on attending. Please inform Kevin (his son) if you are able to attend by emailing kevinbraund3@gmail.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HALIBURTON COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME 13523 Hwy. #118, Haliburton, Ontario 705-457-9209.
