Michelle St. Pierre

Born in Toronto, Michelle grew up in the city’s East End and attended Riverdale Collegiate. In her youth, she worked a variety of jobs, including at a poster shop, a medical office, and a bank’s corporate headquarters. Her spare time was spent sailing and enjoying extended stays in Jamaica.

In her early 30’s, Michelle moved fulltime to the cottage in Gelert with her partner George Farrell. There, she took several years off paid employment to raise her children. Upon returning to work, her longest employers were Golden Stationers in Minden and the Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre in Haliburton. She volunteered for a number of local causes, including the Haliburton County Fair and the Minden Library expansion. In her later years, Michelle moved to Haliburton Village, where she proudly went almost everywhere on foot.

Michelle loved to travel, visiting places such as Quebec, the Maritimes, Alberta, British Columbia, the USA, Mexico, Portugal, Scotland, England, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Michelle was a voluminous reader, staunch feminist, political left-winger, keen art collector, skilled knitter, and an incredible cook. She was compassionate yet tough as nails.

Following a recent cancer diagnosis, Michelle died on March 17th. Michelle is predeceased by parents Hazel and Martin, brother Joseph, partner George, and parents-in-law Jean and Stan. She is survived by sons Brendan and Tyson, cousins Jan and Paul, aunt Collette, uncles Jack and Don, niece Channel, and great-niece Monique. 

Private Funeral Arrangements

As per Michelle’s wishes, cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Rails End Gallery and Arts Centre and the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust.
