Michael "Mike" Conrathe Obituary

Peacefully at his home in Haliburton on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, surrounded by his family and closest friends. Born December 24th, 1940, in Rickmansworth, UK, to Rupert (deceased) and Dorothy Conrathe (deceased). Devoted Husband to Jackie, and formerly to Ginny (deceased 1995), mother of his children. Loving Father to David (Kathyrn) and Joanna (Chris).  Caring Stepfather to Sarah and Robert (Jennifer).  Fun-loving Grandad to Ashley, Emily, Olivia, Kellen, Cameron, and Kylie. Predeceased by his brother Roy (Ruth). Survived by brother Roger (Joan).

Mike was a Mechanical Engineer who spent the majority of his career working for R.F. Mote and Nordson Canada after immigrating in 1968. He and Ginny raised their children in Mount Albert, Ontario, where the family met some of their lifelong friends and shared their happiest memories. Specifically, the annual bed races at the Mount Albert Sports Day fair and the car rallies that he organized for the local United Church. Mike was devastated by the loss of Ginny to cancer in 1995. He was fortunate enough to have found love again with Jackie, who has been a blessing to him and the entire family. Mike and Jackie spent over 20 years of their retirement as snowbirds, enjoying their summers on Halls Lake and winters at Holiday Park in North Port, Florida. Tennis, golf, euchre, and poker were enjoyed on the regular. They most enjoyed the weeks spent with their grandkids at their cottage in the summertime. There was always a special project on the go, including building birdhouses and constructing their own playhouse.

Mike was happiest in life when he was in the company of the people he loved most. An ultimate host and lover of all things sports. Whether he was watching them on tv, participating in a game, or being the ‘Master Tournament Organizer’ for some fun and friendly competition, he was always actively involved.

While Mike will be missed tremendously by his family and friends, there is peace in knowing that the struggle he endured with his health over the past couple of years is now behind him. May he rest in eternal love knowing the wonderful legacy he has left behind.

The family sends their heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors of acute care in both Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) and Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) for the care he received in his final weeks.
