Beloved Wife, Mother, and Friend
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurel McGuinness, who left us peacefully on May 21, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by her loving family. Laurel was a deeply loving and generous soul who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Laurel was the devoted wife of Jerry McGuinness, her partner and best friend of over 40 years. Together, they built a life grounded in love, patience, and unwavering support for one another. Laurel was also the proud and cherished mother of Jessica McGuinness and a loving mother-in-law to Bryn Hickman, whom she welcomed into the family with open arms and a full heart.
Laurel will be remembered for her kind spirit, gentle nature, and boundless compassion. She had a heart of gold and lived her life by putting others before herself. Whether offering a listening ear or a handmade gift crafted with love, she made everyone around her feel special and cared for.
Resilient and incredibly patient, Laurel embodied quiet strength and grace. She found joy in the simple pleasures — her love for owls, bees, Barbie collectibles, weekend antiquing, and curating warm and welcoming home décor brought light and personality to everything she touched.
Laurel was also a talented and creative soul. She loved crafting, painting, and drawing, often sharing her creations with friends and family. Some of her happiest days were spent boating on Gull Lake, where she grew up spending summers with her family. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Laurel returned to Haliburton in recent years and created a cherished home where she could enjoy nature, make memories, and build a lasting family retreat.
Time outdoors was where she felt most herself — nurturing the land she loved, thoughtfully placing her handmade crafts, and shaping the beach with love. It’s a place that now reflects her spirit and will be remembered as part of her lasting presence.
Laurel’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and in every quiet corner of the places she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and unwavering love.
She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
