Kevin Burke

Kevin Scott Burke (in his 55th year, though he claimed it was the mileage, not the year) has officially packed up his gear and gone fishing. Kevin passed away quietly, surrounded by his family, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on the 19th of August, 2026—marking the absolute first time in his life he ever did anything "quietly."

Kevin spent his childhood testing the structural limits of parental patience and local emergency room staff. While other kids collected hockey cards, Kevin collected ER triage wristbands, leaving behind a trail of legendary, unexplained "incidents." There was Hot Iron vs. Floor, Meat Slicer vs. Hand, Axe vs. Foot, Toothbrush vs. Throat, and Wood Stove vs. Butt—just to list a few of the chaotic showdowns that kept him and local hospital staff on a first-name basis and put his parents on the Child Protective Services watch list.

Through his teenage years and early adulthood, Kevin channeled that wild energy into being the life of every party. He built massive, lifelong connections and proved to be fiercely, unshakeably loyal to anyone lucky enough to be in his corner. Learning the trade from his father, Ed, Kevin entered the world of stone masonry. It was no easy road, but Kevin carved out his own distinct path—becoming a true craftsman in his own right and creating enduring works of stone art.

While his later years proved challenging for himself and for those who loved him, Kevin never failed to live life strictly on his own terms. He faced life's dark corners with a joyous, stubborn optimism, finding the upside even when things were at their worst. Above all, he was a walking encyclopedia of advice—always knowing exactly what was best for everybody else, even if it was advice he chose never to take himself.

He was the fiercely protective, frustrating, and profoundly loved son and brother to Ed, Glenda, Collin, and Amanda. In the end, Kevin did things entirely his way. He would love nothing more for those who loved him to remember him by raising a glass, sharing a favorite story, and having a good laugh.

As per the family's wishes, funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kevin's name to The Haliburton Pet Fund at haliburtonpetfund@yahoo.ca. Otherwise, please double-check your safety equipment, avoid sitting on active heat sources, offer someone some completely unsolicited advice, and pour out a stiff drink for a true original, loyal friend, and beloved son and brother who lived—and left—completely on his own terms.
