Joan Iris Nicholls

Peacefully on April 19, 2022, at Ross Memorial Hospital in her 92nd year. Loving wife to George Nicholls for over 68 years. Adoring mother to Mark, Murray, and Mitchell. Grandmother to Michael. Joan is survived by her sisters Irene & Beryl. She is Affectionately remembered by her God daughter Jackie, niece Debbie and her nieces & nephews in England.

Joan and George were married in 1953 in England before emigrating by ocean liner to Canada in 1958. They had their three sons in Etobicoke before settling in Bramalea to raise their family. Joan had a long career working for the Parks & Rec department of the City of Brampton before retiring to the family cottage on Balsam Lake with George.

Following their retirement, Joan and George fulfilled their lifelong dream of traveling the world and continued to travel extensively.

Joan was passionate about her garden and loved to spend her summers at the cottage gardening and hosting dinners for family and friends. Many of her sons’ friends thought of her as a second mother. She was such a welcoming and kind host.

While spending their winters in Sarasota, Florida, Joan indulged her lifelong passion for tennis and made many friends in the Ashton Lakes Community. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her there.

Joan’s family would like to thank the PSWs and nurses that cared for Joan, as well as the staff at Ross Memorial Hospital for their care and support.

Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the COBOCONK COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME 6644 Hwy #35 Coboconk, Ontario 705-454-3913. Please remember Joan by raising a glass of wine, a cocktail (or in true Nicholls fashion both) and toast the many cherished memories of good times with her. If you wish, donate to a charity of your choice, but the toast is non negotiable!
