Joan Lillian Arthur (nee Winnacott)

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved grandmother, Joan Lillian Arthur, who left this world peacefully in on February 17, 2025, in Haliburton, Ontario. She is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Gordon Arthur (January 10, 2019), and her cherished daughter, Debbie (2011). Joan was laid to rest beside them on May 31, 2025, just as she wished. True to her nature, Joan requested a quiet and private farewell with only a few loved ones in attendance. She preferred simplicity, peace, and meaningful connection over formality. Joan is forever loved and deeply missed by her grandchildren: Jason, his wife Nicole, and their children; and Shannon Burk, her partner Chris Sharp, and their many beloved dogs and rescued animals through Shannon’s nonprofit, Somebody to the Rescue.

Joan was endlessly proud of her grandchildren, Jason and Shannon. She wanted nothing but the best for them and beamed with joy knowing Shannon shared the same passion that she and Grandpa once had, saving animals, especially dogs, and giving them a second chance at life. Her spirit will live on in every hummingbird that hovers, every butterfly that dances on the breeze, and every act of kindness shown to animals.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who supported Joan in her final years, especially during times when Shannon couldn’t be in Haliburton. A special thank you goes to Natasha Coumbs, whom Joan loved as family.
