It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ivy Joyce Vivienne Chapple (nee Bonar), who was born on October 29, 1918, in Bristol, England, and passed away on July 22, 2026.
Although we are grateful for the many years we shared with Joy (her preferred name), her passing is a tremendous loss to our family. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and mother-in-law.
Fondly remembered and dearly loved by her daughter, Debra (Ron). Also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Janice (Sean), Ronnie (Lindsay), Matthew, Bruce (Lesley), Sarah (Aaron), Brendan, Garreth, Kailan and Cyril. As well as her great-grandchildren Emma and Kendra, Spencer and Devin, Molly, Keira and Conor, and Ivy-Joyce, and her daughters-in-law Pamela and Lee Ann, and her nieces and nephews.
Pre-deceased by husband Cyril Harry Chapple (2006) and son Alan Chapple (2016), sister Elizabeth Dorothy, and brother Douglas.
Joy loved spending time with family, and her incredible storytelling was only surpassed by her amazing memory for details, which was greatly enjoyed by all those who sat and chatted with her. In a recent article in the Haliburton County Echo published in November 2025, just after Joy’s 107th birthday, the article shared many details of her wonderful life. The final line stated – “for Joy Chapple, her name is fitting: a life lived with happiness, gratitude and pure Joy”. Our family cannot express this any better – always loved, always remembered, and will be forever missed.
