It is with deep love and fond remembrance that the family of Edward “Ed” Pickard announces his peaceful passing surrounded by family on May 15, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born on June 14, 1933, in Toronto, Ontario, Ed was the eldest of three children born to Celia and Byron Pickard. From an early age, he demonstrated a strong sense of duty and service, which led to a distinguished 29-year career as an officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His commitment to community continued well beyond his retirement, especially through his dedicated involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion, where he once served proudly as Legion President.
A man of many talents, Ed held a pilot’s license and never lost his love for flying. However, it was music that truly fueled his spirit. A skilled accordion player, Ed was known to bring joy wherever he went—often traveling to seniors’ homes to perform, and always ready to spark a sing-along at family gatherings or community events. He was the life and soul of every room he entered, his accordion never far from reach.
Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife, Billy Pickard, with whom he shared many cherished years. In recent years, he found companionship and joy once again with his loving partner, Joan.
He leaves behind his children, Wendy, Pat, John, and Rick, and his five treasured grandchildren: George, Cameron, Lauren, Tim, and Mark. His family, whom he held closest to his heart, will remember him for his warmth, humour, stories, and the music that made even ordinary days feel special.
