Peacefully, at Huronia Hospice in Penetanguishene on December 25, 2024, in his 69th year. He leaves behind his beloved partner, Doreen Kellestine, who shared his love of adventure and travel. Dan was the proud and loving dad of Kelly (Mark) and DJ, and the best grandpa to Hayden and Maddie, who adored him. He was a dear brother to Dave (Brenda - predeceased) and Jim (Karen) and is fondly remembered by his nephews Jason (Candace) and Jake, as well as his nieces Jennifer, Kate (Eric), and Karrie (Brandon). He was also the world’s best "Step Dan" to Darel (Tracy), Dayle (Kirk), and Katie (Mitch) and their kids—Mckinley, Sawyer, Brenden, Emma, Josie, and Jack. Haliburton Lake and all the people whose lives he touched will truly never be the same without him. Also remembered by his former wife and loving friend Linda Kay. Dan’s parents, Ross and Eileen Kay, and his brother Ron predeceased him, but their legacy lives on in the warmth and generosity he shared with everyone he met.
Dan had a huge heart and an even bigger life. He served his community as a Councillor with the Municipality of Dysart et al for five terms, and for over three decades he ran K Enterprises, helping families improve their homes. When he wasn’t working or helping others, Dan was planning the next adventure, often dreaming about what was around the corner with Doreen.
Those who knew him will always remember his kind spirit, his humour, and the way he always made everyone feel at home. Haliburton Lake has lost one of its brightest lights.
