Betty Vose “Sandy” Obituary

It is with love and sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Sandra “Sandy” Vose, who was born in Toronto on April 17, 1940, and passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the cottage in Haliburton. Sandy was predeceased by her beloved husband Peter David Vose (2013) and her parents Robert Henry Burwood and Edna Loraine (Strachan). She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Vose (Alan Thomson) and Donna Batten (Brian Batten), who were the light of her life. She was a devoted grandmother to Jonathan Thomson (fiancée Emily Ball), William Thomson, Robert Thomson (fiancée Sian Powell), Rachel Thomson (partner Marshall Campbell), Elizabeth Thomson, Kristen Batten (partner Derek Riseborough), and Mack Batten (partner McKenna Smalley). She will also be fondly remembered by Brian’s children from his first marriage and their families, who were part of her extended circle of love.

Sandy began her career at the Bank of Commerce, where she met David. While raising her family, she also worked part-time at the Bank of Nova Scotia, balancing the demands of work and motherhood. Her first priority was her family, and she was always there for all of us. Throughout her life, Sandy kept a household of dogs who were her loyal companions. She also loved watching
the birds, gardening and decorating her many homes. She enjoyed being at home, entertaining, and filling her house with friends and laughter. She was outgoing, warm, and welcoming, and she built many lasting friendships throughout her life. One of her greatest joys was traveling with David, especially their trips together in the motorhome. Her greatest wish was simply for her children and grandchildren to be happy, and she lived that wish every day. Her final resting place will be in the company of the people and places she cherished most. Some of her ashes will be scattered on Hunter Island at Redstone Lake, where a quiet spot will be set aside to remember her in nature.

A Remembrance Gathering

A gathering of family and friends to honor Sandy will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Highway 97 Brewery in Penticton, British Columbia, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A smaller gathering for friends in Ontario will be announced at a later date. We encourage you to share your memories and stories of Mom with us. Sandy will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love. As an expression of sympathy, donations to your local Humane Society in Sandy’s memory would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the HALIBURTON COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME 13525 Hwy. #118, Haliburton, Ontario (705) 457-9209.
