Betty Trapp (nee Schott) Obituary

Betty Elenor Trapp (nee Schott) with family by her side, passed away at Haliburton Hospital on October 15, 2024, in her 91st year.  Beloved wife of the late William (Bill) Trapp (2016) for more than 60 years, and much-loved mother of Gary (Cindy) of Haliburton and Robert (Suzanne) of Niagara Falls.  Grandma will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Lindsay and Tyler.  She will be remembered fondly by her surviving family members: sisters Sandra (Norphy dec) and Donna, brother Jim (Jill), and many nieces and nephews.  Betty was predeceased by her parents and parents-in-law, sister Carole Edwards (2021), siblings-in-law June and Bruce Elliott, John (Jack) Trapp, Adeline Trapp, Ken and Mary Trapp, many other close family members, along with her dear friend from public school onwards - Carole Bender (2024).

Betty met Bill through bowling and their mutual employment with Bell Canada, and after their sons were in school, Betty worked for Sears for several years.  Following Bill’s retirement from Bell Canada in 1987, they moved from St. Catharines to become full-time residents on Maple Lake in Haliburton, and then at Echo Hills in Haliburton.  They enjoyed various activities in early retirement like golf and bowling, as well as day-tripping off to try their luck at the casino before returning home to the natural beauty of the Highlands.  Betty also loved gardening and puzzles, and they both valued their family and friend connections from far and near.

Betty was very grateful for the care giver support that allowed her to continue to live independently in her cozy Echo Hills apartment for many years, and then the ongoing support in her last nest at the Gardens Retirement home since the fall of 2023.

The compassionate care of the Haliburton Highlands Hospital medical and all support staff in her final days was clearly evident and much appreciated by her family.

Celebration of Life

Betty requested cremation, and in honour of her final wishes, the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.  As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation - Palliative Care Unit, the Haliburton 4C’s organization, or Operation Smile Canada would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the HALIBURTON COMMUNITY FUNERAL HOME 13523 Hwy. #118, Haliburton, Ontario (705) 457-9209.
